US 1 RENAMED
Saturday, Sept. 18, a small a gathering of people attended a brief ceremony to celebrate US 1 becoming Harriet Tubman Highway. Along the distance that it travels through Miami-Dade County most of US1 has a new name. South Miami has renamed it's section, and I hope to see appropriate signs soon. I like the fact that this highway is named after a very brave African-American woman, a "shero"!

SAVE GALA
This year, I am honored to serve on the Host Committee for SAVE’s Champions of Equality Gala, which will take place virtually on Thursday, September 23rd. I hope you will tune in for the evening, as we recognize community luminaries and elected officials for their work in advancing equality and safeguarding democracy. In addition to the awards ceremony--emceed by Rep. Brian Sims--the dynamic program will include musical performances by Robbie Elias and an online auction. All proceeds will directly support SAVE’s mission to promote, protect and defend equality for LGBTQ people in South Florida.
This year’s impressive roster of honorees include US Congressman David Cicilline of Rhode Island (one of the Chairs of the Congressional LGBTQ Caucus), Cuban-American artist and illustrator Edel Rodriguez (creator of many iconic TIME magazine covers), Miami-Dade County Commissioner Eileen Higgins, leadership of The Miami Foundation and Our Fund, Florida State Senator Shevrin “Shev” D. Jones, and Kevin Cho Tipton, APRN, a South Florida critical care nurse practitioner.
