Vol 1, No. 37 July 18, 2020
MIAMI-DADE COUNTY-WIDE $100 FINE

Individuals ... can now be cited by MDPD or by Miami-Dade Code Enforcement, both of which have authority to issue tickets with fines of ups to $100. Seems it would be better to be lax in South Miami twice - here one would be warned once and fined $50 at the next warning.
I've been thinking about "being forced" to wear a mask. In some ways it's really similar to being forced to stop at red lights. When the roads are empty, it seems silly to be sitting all alone waiting for a light to change. When you can't see the virus, it seems silly to wear a mask. BUT there are some really interesting experiments which show the effectiveness of being behind a mask - remember they work both ways - protecting you from someone else's germs as well as protecting others from yours. TESTING SITES
There are 18 testing sites open to all Miami-Dade county residents. The closest to South Miami - at 7.9 miles - is Marlins Park. The furthest is 27.5 miles away. Even the most distant one is within a 40-minute drive (depending, of course, on the time of day).

FOOD DISTRIBUTION

There is no enforcement or advertisement/education. Restaurants with people sitting down inside. People walking around without masks all over the place. You don’t need to fine. Get people out there educating and handing out masks, now!
My 2 cents: I also think $100 fine for South Miami is in order, only because people who live outside our city come here. Thanks for the testing sites list!
I apologize that my sarcasm was attempted in the wrong context. I am quite serious about my wearing masks and about everyone else wearing a mask. The City of South Miami's Code Enforcement will be enforcing the warnings and fines when people are in the City of South Miami without masks. I am hoping that they do not fine anyone, because everyone who is out in South Miami is safely six feet distance from everyone else and is wearing a mask. Not only does South Miami's enforcement team have eyes on the street, but now the County does, too, with even harsher penalties. I wish that no one in South Miami go without a mask or be fined.
“Better to be lax in South Miami” is not the message to send right now even if it’s unintentionally at odds with the rest of the message!
My husband and I agree 100%. We expect from our elected officials to protect our city and lead us to maximum safety. South Miami is one of Florida cities with the most cases per population so we should be stricter rather than lax.
