SUNSHINE MEETING

At this time, I do not have the url for joining the meeting via Zoom. As soon as I get it, I will send it forward.

I hope that all those who are running or may run in the future for the City Commission or who may become the chairperson of a City board will attend this meeting. I am looking forward to reviewing and clarifying procedures.

PEACOCKS

A number of people have complained about the noise and mess that peacocks make. There are areas in South Miami that are over-run with these big birds. The City has been asked to fix the problem. Right now, I haven't got a fool-proof solution about how to get the birds to find another place to live. If anyone does have an idea - either about a solution or about where to look for a solution - please let me know.

The City has rules against feeding wild cats and peacocks. See The Code of Ordinances, Chapter 5, Article III, Sec. 5-20.

Ask your neighbors who feed wild cats, not to do so. peacocks like cat food.

This is because the birds are protected under the anti cruelty laws that are laid out by the Florida Animal Department." That web site also has suggestions about discouraging peacocks. Here is another site with suggestions.

On the web I found: "Water is one of the best-known deterrents for peafowl. The intermittent use of sprinklers or a hose with a jet nozzle will act as a negative reinforcement for the birds." And

"To discourage peacocks from returning to your property, always feed your pets indoors and install seed catchers on your bird feeders so that what gets scratched out isn't scattered enticingly over the ground. Cover your compost pile with netting or chicken wire to keep the big birds out of it."

I also found: "What does it mean if a peacock comes to your house? This is a wonderful omen and foretells success, luck, and a career that you have desired. It also represents longevity, spring, love, birth, and new growth. However, rarely, a peacock indicates danger, because of its arrogance and false pride."
