He rode his bicycle and wove a web in a city he loved. He kept many in the loop who otherwise would not have been aware. He was on a one-man mission to reforest South Dade with slash pine and live oak trees. He wrote lyrics to popular songs so that we all knew his feelings about controversies. He created signs to express his political opinions. He loved animals and birds and the environment. He was quirky and honest and generous.

We wanted to believe he was unstoppable.

Bob Welsh will be remembered this coming Wednesday, March 3, at the new park near Ludlam Elementary School (7435 SW 66 Avenue), from 4:00 - 6:00 pm. To help celebrate his life and passions, please walk, ride a bike, or take FreeBee to the ceremony.

(There is very little parking available.)

To honor him donations can be made to his three favorite charities: Treemendous Miami, Pelican Harbor Seabird Station, and the Center for Great Apes.

And you should have seen the heirloom cauliflower I bought! It was beautiful, it's gone now, it was delicious.

re: RECYCLE, RELOCATE, RELIEF

Mark your calendars, in honor of Earth Day, South Miami is going to hold a RECYCLING DAY at the Public Works yard on April 17th. The yard is located at 4795 SW 75 Avenue. People will be able to drive in to the yard, open the trunks of their cars, and let the staff remove paper, cardboard and more. Paper will be shredded in front of the citizen. This is just the first of what may become a recurring event. Depending on how it goes, perhaps other items to be recycled will be added in the future. More details will be coming in future announcements from the City.

Keep healthy, stay safe.
