Vol. 5, No. 4 1 June 2025

ON THE AGENDA

R. ORDINANCE(S) SECOND READING(S) ... AN ORDINANCE OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA, AMENDING THE ZONING MAP OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI TO CHANGE THE ZONING DISTRICT OF THE PROPERTY LOCATED AT 6540 MANOR LANE FROM “DUPLEX RESIDENTIAL” (RT-6) TO “TOWNHOUSE RESIDENTIAL” (RT-18); ...

The proposed design is for five 3-bedroom townhouses with one two-car garage behind each one. The light gray area is all pavement so the cars can get in and behind the dwellings. The plans call for five medium shade trees, but they will not be the mature mangoes that are there now.

COMMISSION MEETING

The meeting to consider this zoning change starts at 7:00 pm on Tuesday night, June 3, in the City Hall Commission chambers. It is possible to follow on line from the City's website: southmiamifl.gov.

If you have concerns about

(1) the traffic jam that will happen as people in these five dwellings go to work, take their children to school, and run their errands,

(2) the loss of gorgeous green canopy,

(3) the strong possibility that the developer will rent these units as 30-day rentals,

(4) the difficulty of trash and garbage pick-up on the very narrow winding street, speak at the meeting.

If you'd rather see (a) city park and (b) green space, (c) reasonable traffic flow and (d) safer streets, let those opinions be known, too.

Other ways to share opinions are to email, call, or text everyone on the City Commission:

Mayor Javier Fernandez jfernandez@southmiamifl.gov (305) 761-2274

Vice Mayor Brian Corey bcorey@southmaimifl.gov (305) 976-2404

Commissioner Steve Calle scalle@southmiamifl.gov (305) 915-1246

Commissioner Dan Rodriguez drodriguez@southmiamifl.gov (786) 256-2046

Commissioner Lisa Bonich lbonich@southmiamifl.gov (786) 852-2614

FLAG DAY

The parade in Washington is larger than usual, because June 14 is also the current President's birthday. I have registered to attend, but have absolutely no desire to celebrate the megalomaniac's birthday. So I won't be there. Perhaps others would like to show their lack of appreciation for the current Federal administration by registering and not attending.

I also plan to show my disgust with kind of "cost cutting" that is happening nationally by attending the No Kings Protest that afternoon. An article about what this protest means is here.
